Bea Loveseth Memorial Award
The 2023 Bea Loveseth Award will be presented to a student presenter (MA or Undergraduate) at the 2023 Archaeological Society of Alberta Annual Meeting to be held April 27-30 at Bodo Archaeological Centre. To submit a paper for consideration - students must submit their presentation by email to the ACA at [email protected] prior to the conference to be considered for the award.
The Bea Loveseth Memorial Award is a $350 cash prize awarded annually to the author of the best paper presented by an undergraduate or master's student at the Annual Meeting of the Archaeological Society of Alberta. The goal of the award is to encourage students to take the important professional step of presenting their ideas in a public setting.
Bea Loveseth received her B.A. and M.A. from the University of Calgary and served as President of Chacmool in 1976. Bea's Master's thesis examined a large, multi-component site in the Crowsnest Pass of Alberta; it remains a basic source document for anyone working in the Rocky Mountains. Bea was an early advocate of Rocky Mountain archaeology as more than an adjunct to Plains archaeology and she was an integral force in recognizing and identifying lithic material sources in the Canadian Rockies.
All undergraduate and graduate students presenting papers at the ASA Conference are eligible to apply, and are urged to submit their papers to the Committee for consideration. Papers must be submitted prior to the opening day of the conference to be considered for this award.
